Placed for a Purpose

Bobby Scott cares deeply for his patients.  The StoneBridge physician takes the time to build relationships with all of them. One of these patients, “Mark,” is an elderly, lonely gentleman who is a curmudgeon in his outlook on life. Over the years Bobby gained Mark’s trust, and their relationship is one of mutual respect. God has been working in Bobby’s heart to step out of his comfort zone, and a recent visit presented an opportunity to tend to Mark’s spiritual ailments, in addition to his physical ones.

Bobby sensed God’s calling to have a more missional heart in his work. Part of this calling is through his involvement with Journey Groups at StoneBridge. In the past, he was reticent about sharing his faith, but as Mark awaited him in the exam room, Bobby stepped out in boldness and love to this hurting man.

Mark: “I wish my life would just end.”

Bobby: “What do you think will happen when you die?”

Mark:  “I don’t know what I think about God. I think there will just be blackness.”

Bobby shared the gospel with Mark — right there in the exam room. He even offered him the Bible he kept in his office—though Mark declined to take it. Mark will be back, as he is a regular patient. He told Bobby he would think about it and wasn’t offended. Praise God for this divine appointment and for a physician’s boldness for the message of Christ to this hurting man.

No one knows the plans God has for Mark, but Bobby was placed for a purpose that day, regardless of what Mark comes to believe. Do you go to work with a missional heart for others, seeing them as God’s children? Remember to have courage and boldness! The Holy Spirit will equip you with all you need as you spread the Good News.
