A Wonderland of Joy

Heal Charlotte Winter Wonderland 2022

The giddy Hidden Valley kids and their moms streamed into the northeast Charlotte Press Box Restaurant with their eyes all aglow on a Saturday afternoon. Yes, a sports bar can be magically converted to a winter wonderland, thanks to the hard work of Heal Charlotte and numerous volunteers.

Brent Jones transported over 100 underprivileged families to the venue for an afternoon of music, games, food, and of course, toys! Along with entertainment for the kids was an opportunity for moms to shop for free in the back room “clothing store,” stocking up on kids’ jeans or a cute top for themselves.

Upon coming in the door, the bass pulsed from the DJ’s speakers and kids took the stage and floor to breakdance, free dance, or sing along to Christian hip hop or pop Christmas songs. Tables were set up with loads of candy, Jenga, and Uno games. Glittery garland lined the restaurant walkways, creating warmth and cheer for all. Joy and excitement was upon every person in attendance, including the roughly 15 volunteers from StoneBridge.

Greg Jackson from Heal Charlotte constantly pumped up the crowd with Razor scooter raffles and promises of all the fun to come, and he certainly delivered. Elves and Santa made an appearance, drawing oohs and aahs from the eager kids. They competed in gingerbread house competitions and were able to take a stocking complete with stuffers.

Samaritan’s Feet arrived with over 100 pairs of Crocs to donate, thrilling mothers and children. With bellies full from lunch and sweets, feet tired from dancing, and clothing chosen to take home, the toys were at last distributed and to the delight of all.

Most importantly, these families clearly heard about the love of God, and his love and favor were evident in this event. Greg is not shy about sharing his faith and purpose. These Hidden Valley moms and kids were esteemed and valued in the most loving way at this event. They were shown God’s incredible love and grace through something as simple as a jenga game or a new pair of jeans.

Make it a habit to regularly check the numerous service opportunities on our website. Participate and love your Charlotte neighbors. Place yourself for a purpose in a two-hour volunteer slot. You will be blessed and encouraged and also have your eyes opened to all that God is doing, right in your backyard.
